Ahh yes, boating, I remember the day when I first got on board a boat, in the hands of a novice boating person. I knew nothing and he knew almost nothing. What a recipe for disaster! boating safety was not a deterrent.

Firstly, we hired boats before we bought them, which alleviated any boating accessories being bought, I still don’t know why any were bought, this person spent more time getting stuck on sand bars and cleaning the mess up afterwards than ever he did getting stuck into any serious sea faring adventures!

Actually the most adventurous thing I ever remember happening was once when we stopped to visit an island off the coastline of south east Queensland, in Australia. We took the small dingy onto the beach of this island as it was too shallow to take the boat in. All was well when we arrived but the day rolled on and we were there for a couple of hours until the sun started to go down.
Well it was at that time that we all realized that blue swimmer crabs come out by the truck load when the sun goes down. Having a four year old daughter who was all but petrified of this crawling blue mass on the beach did not help my own paranoia!

The only way to get to the dingy was to wade through all these blue swimmer crabs which were completely covering the beach. Well we ended up, both my daughter and myself being carried through the blue swimmer crabs and placed into the dingy so that we could get back to our boat without being bitten to death!

It was that same boating trip that we ended up on a sandbar overnight and it was so bad that you could get out of the boat onto the sand and walk around it.
Needless to say, we parted company, that old sea dog (not) and boating safety itinerant and I. These days he just tortures others instead!
