What if… the WWE were to add a belt. Or even bring one back at that. What would you want it to be? Here are a few possibilities I could see happening. Not that the WWE would actually do one of these, but I could picture them in my mind. This belts would go on either RAW or SD! (sorry ECW: not enough talent). They also would probably have to replace a different title just because of lack of time.
Wrestling is a high intensity sport. Thus, conditioning for wrestling calls for high intensity training. In addition wrestling not only requires high intensity power output but an ability to sustain this output for up 6 minutes. Cardiovascular conditioning is one of the most important aspects of a wrestler’s training but many times we see wrestlers during the season running for miles only to find themselves tired after the first minute of a match. Many wrestlers ask why this is; the answer is simple, they are training the wrong energy system.
Eastern Championship Wrestling (ECW) was the first incarnation of the groundbreaking and influential professional wrestling promotion later dubbed Extreme Championship Wrestling (from here on they will be used interchangeably). ECW was founded by Tod A. Gordon in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1992 as a member of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA).Gordon sold the promotion to his head booker, Paul Heyman, in 1996.In 1992, as a start up wrestling promotion with no publicity, ECW needed some fire power, and Gordon found it in the form of the bad man from the Fiji Islands. Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka was brought into ECW fresh off a hiatus from the WWE (WWF at the time). He was rested and appeared to be in the top shape of his career.Snuka was the first ECW world champion. His stake to the title gave it legitimacy from day one, something the baby wrestling promotion sorely needed. The “Superfly” even had a few battles with his old WWE nemesis Don Muraco. Indeed it was the Magnificent One who ended Snuka’s second reign as Extreme Championship Wrestling king pin on September 30, 1992 in Philadelphia, PA at the ECW arena. Muraco and Snuka remained in ECW and later formed an alliance.
The whistle has blown marking the end of the first period of your match. Your heart is racing and you can hardly breathe. You have been running 2 miles everyday just like your coach and dad told you to. So why are you tired after only 2 minutes? Running long distance conditioning works the body’s aerobic energy system to use energy over a long period of time, where with wrestling we are required to sustain high levels of energy very quickly and recover in a short period of time.
Rumours have been circulating lately that Edge was moved from Raw to Smackdown for reasons other than the injuries suffered by The Undertaker and Mr. Kennedy. The reason, so goes the rumour, is that with his ever imminent return to action due Triple H made it clear to WWE management that he didn’t believe Edge was a big enough star to be battling with Triple H.
In most cases you would argue this was just over imaginative fans making a story out of nothing but given the murky past of Triple H and his sabotaging of other wrestlers pushes up the ladder can we be so quick to dismiss it?
