Running is a passion for many people. Runners run for many reasons, some to get away, some to get exercise, and some because they just can’t not run. Following are some tips for new and experienced runners:

Note: Before you begin running or any exercise program, consult your doctor.

  • Make a Goal. Goals will motivate you. Goals will vary from person to person. They can be personal mileage goals like the number of miles you will average in a day. They can be preparing for and competing in a specific race.

Do you want to run a marathon for the first time? A good training schedule is important to avoid healthy risks and injuries. The distance of this run is 42,195 km or 26 miles 385 yards. You will understand the need of a good preparation to start this athletics event. Nobody will do the same like the Greek soldier Pheidippides who ran the entire distance without stopping from Marathon to Athens and died by his arrival.

How to train for a marathon depends of the current condition of the runner. Some important questions are:

If there is one area that always comes in for a bashing when people run, it is the knee. Ironically the knee joint is actually rarely the problem and the fault often lies in the joints above and below the knee. Unfortunately the knee is between the ankle and the hip, two areas where people often lack the necessary stability (in and mobility to create good movements.

I used to be more or less a slug. I only exercised to prevent weight gain, and nothing was more boring than a few miles on the treadmill. It did not take much for me to find a reason not to get to the gym on a regular basis and then I would berate myself. About five years ago I met my current girlfriend, and her love of mountain biking was as infectious as her laugh. I wound up going one step further to extreme mountain biking and now I go almost every weekend. I have been so much happier since taking up this great sport.

Running is one of the most popular ways to stay in shape and feel great. One of the main reasons why it is so popular is because it is something that anyone can do without big investment. When compared to aerobics classes or expensive work-out equipment, running is the cheapest and best way to stay in shape.

However, running does require certain accessories to ensure that your running experience is a fulfilling one. For those who are serious about incorporating running into their health regiment, neglecting your running gear can result in discomfort and even injuries while running. By ensuring you have all the right gear, you can be sure of a complete and worry-free running experience.

“Get big calves with only 10 sets of 20 repetitions every other day”. Just imagine the amount of time required for that program! Unfortunately many calf-training articles preach ridiculously high-repetition sets and training frequencies in comparison to routines for most other muscles. Granted, the calves are a difficult muscle group to increase in muscle mass, BUT/ there is no evidence to support the notion that the muscles respond better to high-repetition and light load training.
