Ok, so you’ve done a few bungee jumps with some reputable companies and had a lovely time but you want more. You want to go off with your homies and jump where and when you like and without paying for the privilege each time. Well OK, but you be careful now, read this guide and it should help you avoid becoming and blot on the landscape….

Step one
If you are going to go bungee jumping without the experts you better become an expert yourself. Talk to as many people as you can who know what they are on about. Get advice via the web and talk to experts face to face and get as much instructional information as you can books, videos, manuals etc.

Step two
Go back to the reputable companies you have used before and discuss the equipment and techniques they use. Ask if they run lessons for those wanting to go and do if for themselves. Don’t forget you can’t go jumping on your own, you need someone with you so now might be a good time to find that person and make sure they know what they are doing too…

Step three
You need to buy some elastic. Buy equipment from approved and specialist suppliers, there are different types of cords (sheathed, all rubber) and harnesses. As a beginner you may want to go for a cheat and waist harness rather than an ankle one. Get advice and make informed decisions.

Step four
Now you have got your stuff you can’t just go and jump off any old bridge or ledge you crazy fool… you have to find approved locations. It’s illegal to jump from some locations and from others you are just gonna kill yourself. Only jump from approved places, maybe there is a Bungee jumping club in your area that you can join and go jumping with, at least for the first few times.

Step five
As mentioned before, you can’t go jumping on your own. You need someone to help you get the equipment on and check it safe, and you’ll probably need help getting back to the top or down to the bottom to unhook. It would be a shame to be left dangling after all. Plus, if it all goes pear shaped, and it’s not too late, you will be glad of someone to call for help…

Step six
Before you throw yourself off check your equipment carefully and get your buddy to check it too. If anything looks worn replace it. This one is a bit of a no-brainer so I’ll leave it up to your common sense and love of life…

Step Seven
Right you’re all set, assuming you have experienced a jump before you won’t be chickening out on the edge. It may be a little scary if its your first time with your own equipment but your intensive training and research will stand you in good stead, so off you go, throw yourself as far as you can, enjoy the rush….
